I have been accused of something

It can be very distressing if you have been accused of bullying, harassment, hate crime or gender-based violence.  We understand that any accusation of inappropriate behaviour will be upsetting for you and, whilst we have a duty to thoroughly investigate all reports, we can assure you that we will do this sensitively, confidentially and in accordance with our policies & procedures.

Steps you can take if you have been accused of misconduct include:

  • Try to stay calm - It is important to react appropriately even if you believe the accusation is false.  Let the investigation take its course and do not contact the person who has accused you.
  • Talk to someone you trust - It is important for you not to feel alone through the process so consider sharing with a friend, a family member, or a trusted colleague.  Remember to keep any details confidential, this is important for you and the person who has reported the behaviour.
  • Access support from EAP – The service will aim to offer you support throughout the whole process and can also advise on other support you can access.  You can also read more about support for your health & wellbeing

Please be aware the health & wellbeing guide will take you to a document on our staff intranet. You will need to log on to access it. We cannot connect you logging in to this system.

Legal advice – it may be appropriate to seek legal advice from an independent source if you have been contacted by the police.
